BRAZIL: Indians speak out against mining on their land
Indian leaders in Brazil have voiced their
opposition to a draft law which would allow
mining in indigenous territories. ‘I am very
worried about the mining law. It will destroy our
heartlandS Mining will bring us disease, alcohol
and pollution’, said Davi Yanomami.
PARAGUAY: 57,000 sign petition to save uncontacted Ayoreo-Totobiegosode
Survival presented a petition to the Paraguayan
government on 9 August, UN Indigenous People’s
Day, with 57,000 signatures in support of
uncontacted Ayoreo Indians. The petition was
presented simultaneously in London, Madrid,
Paris, Berlin and Brussels.
