UNITED / PEACE + JUSTICE: Get Representative Stand Up to Bush

Get Your Representative to Stand Up to Bush!
Please share this as widely as possible!
Dear James,

Help Us Get 100 Members of Congress to Stand Up to Bush!

1. See if your representative has signed the "showdown" letter.

2. If he/she hasn’t, send an email asking him/her to now.

3. If he/she is one of the 10 reps who responded to the grassroots and signed recently (see list below), thank and urge him/her to stand strong.

4. If he/she has signed the letter, please sign this petition to Speaker Pelosi.

We are frustrated with a Congress that says OK to Bush each time he asks for money to continue his catastrophic occupation of Iraq. But we’ve found 80 members of Congress who are willing stand up to him.

Ask your representative to join them!

80 Congressmembers have signed a "showdown" letter to President Bush that begins: "We are writing to inform you that we will only support appropriating additional funds for U.S. military operations in Iraq during Fiscal Year 2008 and beyond for the protection and safe redeployment of all our troops out of Iraq before you leave office."
This letter does not bar its signers from pushing for an earlier deadline, but it does commit them to vote against any bill that funds the occupation. The signers of this letter are demonstrating their support for Rep. Barbara Lee’s "fully funded withdrawal" amendment, which would restrict all Iraq funding to providing for the safe and orderly withdrawal of all troops and military contractors. Rep. Lee has been asking for a vote on her amendment for months — let’s make sure it gets to the floor this fall.

While the letter is addressed to Bush, it is aimed at the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. It is vital that a significant number of representatives sign the letter to convince Speaker Pelosi to follow a strategy of confrontation rather than appeasment with Bush and the pro-war members of Congress.

Our goal is over 100 signatures.

Help us get your representative to sign this letter!

If your representative has NOT signed the letter, send an email asking him/her to sign it now.

If your representative is DeFazio, Jackson, Kucinich, Loebsak, Meeks, Murphy (CT), Thompson, Watt, Weiner or Welch, please take a moment now to thank and encourage him/her to stand strong. These 10 reps responded to grassroots pressure and recently signed the letter.
Has your representative already signed? (Click here to find the full list of signers.)  Then, please sign this petition to Speaker Pelosi.
