Join us in DC to say:
Get out of Iraq! Stay out of Iran!
Join the Stop War on Iran campaign at the Encampment to Stop the War – March
with the Stop War on Iran Contingent on September 29
The past few days have seen an ominous campaign of demonization against
Iran.  The threat of a new war grows, with nearly half of the U.S. Navy
withing striking range of Iran, capable of unleashing a horrific barrage of
missiles, bombs, and artillery within minutes.
Congress, despite having a clear anti-war mandate, is working closely with
the Bush Administration to prepare the way for an attack against Iran.
Today, Senators Joseph Lieberman and Jon Kyl proposed an amendment (No.
3017) that calls for the "use of all instruments of United States national
power in Iraq, including diplomatic, economic, intelligence, and military
instruments" against the people of Iran.  While non-binding, this amendment
is a clear signal to the Bush Administration that members of Congress – both
Republican and Democrat – have no intention of challenging the drive to war.
We must be in the streets to demand, "Get out of Iraq! Stay out of Iran."
Only a flood of resistance will stop the bipartisan determination to begin a
new war against the people of Iran.
Today, activists at the Encampment to Stop the War in Washington DC held an
emergency protest directly in front of then White House (see the Encampment
blog for details).  In a statement released prior to the demonstration, the
Troops Out Now Coalition said:
As Iran’s president prepares to speak to the UN General Assembly, a tsunami
of pro-war propaganda is being aimed against yet another oil-rich country in
the Middle East.
The Troops Out Now Coalition, which is currently staging an Encampment at
the Capitol to tell Congress to stop funding the war against Iraq and
instead fund people’s needs at home, will be marching to the White House to
tell Bush:
Get out of Iraq and stay out of Iran!
TONC calls on progressive organizations and the anti-war movement to join it
and stand against the racist demonization of Iran. The Bush administration
is trying to divert attention from its crimes in Iraq, where an immense
humanitarian crisis rages because of the war and continued occupation.
The world’s No. 1 terrorist lives in the White House!
The next few days will see more actions and protests, culminating in the
massive march on Saturday, September 29.  More than 120 buses, as well as
vans and car caravans, are coming from more than 80 organizing centers.
It is vital that you join us in DC this week.  If you cannot join us for the
Encampment, please find a local organizing center and get your bus ticket
for the September 29 march today — see
http://troopsoutnow.org/sept2907orgcents.shtml for an updated list.
During the next few days, we will need hundreds of volunteers – please see
the sidebar to find out how you can help.
If you’re not able to come to the Encampment, you can still be a part of
this national effort to move from protest to resistance.  A mobilization of
this size is enormously expensive, and we are in urgent need of fund to help
pay for food, buses, picket signs, and much more.  Please consider making an
online donation at http://troopsoutnow.org/donate.shtml.

If you cannot join us in Washington, you can still help. Please donate
whatever you can to help others join the march. Every single dollar helps to
make our voices stronger. Your donations can help pay for buses, fliers,
picket signs, mailings and all of the necessary costs.  Everyone can be a
part of this effort.
Volunteers Needed:
Organizers with the Encampment to Stop the War and the September 29 National
March need your help.  We need hundreds of volunteers to help with medical,
housing, driving, food, legal, security, and more. See below for details:
As part of the preparations for the encampment, the march and rally, we are
asking for volunteer health care workers who are doctors, nurses, first
aiders and medics to assist at the first aide tent at the encampment and at
the demonstration on Saturday.
We will have a bus at the back of the march that will pick up people who are
unable to walk the march route.
This vehicle will have water and first aide equipment. There will be an
orientation the morning of the march.  If you are able to help out please
call us at 202-821-3686.
Housing is desperately needed for encampment participants. City policy
prevents participants from actually sleeping on the campsite. Therefore, we
need to find free and cheap housing in/around DC for the period of the
encampment, in order to make participation in the encampment as broad as
If you can share any space (bed, floorspace, sofa/bed) in your apartment,
house, organization or other space, call us at 202-821-3686.
Attention drivers with vehicles:
If you live in and/or are familiar with the DC-metro area, your help is
greatly needed. We will need experienced drivers during then week, to help
transport people to/from motels, food from restaurants, equipment, and
various other events. If you have availability during the encampment, to
help out with this task please call us at 202-821-3686.
Request for Legal Support
The Troops Out Now coalition has requested legal support from the
progressive legal community for their encampment & march in Washington DC
from Sept 22-29 . We especially need legal observers for the Sept 29th
If you are available to be in DC anytime during the or be on-call, or have
additional questions, please call us at 202-821-3686 with your availability
and contact information. There is a need for on-call attorneys the entire
week, but especially on the 29th.
Hundreds of anti-war activists are expected to come to Washington DC to
participate in the encampment from Sept 22-29. Many will have traveled long
distances to participate and many have very little money for food for the
week. We need food donations to feed the encampment participants.
We are asking for donations of non perishable food, ie. boxes of granola
bars, protein bars, and other snacks that are individually wrapped.
Beverages such as individual bottles of water, soda or boxed or canned
juice. We are encouraging anyone driving to the encampment to bring bulk
food items of any quantity to share with others.
If you live in The DC, MD, VA and belong to a union, church, school or
organization that is connected to local restaurants, caterers, or food
vendors, to help provide HOT MEALS OR BULK FOODS for the encampment — this
would be a tremendous contribution! We have no cooking facilities and no
refrigeration so food has to be eaten at meal time. If we have food left
over or dry good we plan to donate it to a homeless shelter.
AND WELCOMED! Donate online here.
Please call us at 202-821-3686.
All experience levels are welcomed!!  if you are interested please call us
at 202-821-3686.
