Action: Muslims Voters Urged to Participate in ‘Super Tuesday’

CAIR is urging American Muslim voters to participate in so-called "Super Tuesday" primaries on February 5. This is a critical date in the process of selecting which candidates will gain their party’s nomination for the presidential election in November.

[In a recent CAIR survey, almost 80 percent of the Muslim voters polled said they would vote in this year’s presidential primaries. SEE: American Muslim Voters and the 2008 Election]

Action: Urge Senate to Oppose Warrantless Surveillance

CAIR today called on American Muslims and other people of conscience to oppose unchecked domestic surveillance programs and retroactive immunity for telecom companies that may have aided such surveillance.

Two years ago, Americans learned that the National Security Agency (NSA) was engaging in domestic spying without the traditional check of judicial review. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) of 1978 prohibits domestic spying without a warrant from a special court established by the law. . .

This week, the U.S. Senate is expected to vote on the FISA Amendments Act, a law that would update FISA’s rules on surveillance.

IMMEDIATE ACTIONS REQUESTED: 1. CONTACT both of your Senators and ask them to oppose unchecked domestic surveillance of ordinary Americans. [Click here to read the full Action Alert, including talking points.]

CAIR-OH: Anti-Muslim Prejudice Makes No One Safer

David Cole told a Cincinnati audience Sunday about "Islamophobia" – the fear, distrust and hatred of Muslims. Cole and several other panelists said it’s a growing byproduct of the war on terror and the erosion of American civil liberties.

He made his remarks at a forum held by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Edward B. Brueggeman Center for Dialogue and seven other groups to discuss stereotypes and "the politics of fear" directed at Muslims. The event, at Xavier University’s Cintas Center, attracted about 150 people.

  VERSE OF THE DAY
God Responds to the Distressed Soul

"Who is it that responds to the distressed (soul) when it calls out to Him, and who removes the ill (that caused the distress), and has made (mankind) inherit the earth? Could there be any divine power other than God? How seldom do you keep this in mind!"

The Holy Quran, 27:62
