The US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation is organizing a nationwide
speaking and organizing tour with high-profile South African and Palestinian
leaders in November 2008.
We are pleased to announce that Diana Buttu and Eddie Makue will be the
headlined speakers for our tour. Diana Buttu is a former PLO legal advisor
and attorney, and Eddie Makue is the General Secretary of the South African
Council of Churches in Johannesburg .
This speaking and organizing tour will:
Draw comparisons and contrasts between Apartheid in Israel/Palestine and
South Africa
Share lessons learned from the struggle to end Apartheid in South Africa
Provide people in the United States with organizing strategies and resources
to promote campaigns in their communities to end U.S. support for Israeli
Apartheid
We are asking our coalition member groups to apply to have the
anti-apartheid organizing and speaking tour come to your city. To apply to
host Buttu and Makue in your city, please click here.
This is a competitive process and we will select proposals that are
developed and have the capacity to substantially reach hundreds of
activists, community members and academics.
Combined with our ongoing public education and grassroots organizing
efforts, these events will help build ties to other organizations doing
similar work and to strengthen education efforts in the United States about
Apartheid in Palestine and its similarities to Apartheid in South Africa .
The tour is slated to begin after the elections in November and will run two
weeks and stop in five to seven cities. To watch new video of Nobel Peace
Prize-winner and long-time anti-apartheid leader Archbishop Desmond Tutu
endorse our speakers’ tour, please click here.
Again, if your organization would like to apply to host a leg of our
anti-apartheid speaking/organizing tour, please click here.
Finally, we encourage those of you interested in learning first-hand about
Apartheid in Palestine/Israel to join the US Campaign and Interfaith
Peace-Builders for a unique opportunity to learn about the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict and meet Palestinians and Israelis working for
peace and justice by utilizing an anti-apartheid framework. Palestinian
civil society groups have increasingly termed Israel ‘s domination of the
Palestinian territories as a form of Apartheid.
Spaces are still available for our joint July 27-August 10, 2008
Anti-Apartheid Delegation to Palestine/Israel. This delegation will focus on
the structural segregation of Israeli and Palestinian space and the physical
separation of the two peoples. Delegation participants will also explore
methods proposed by Israeli, Palestinian and international peacemakers to
challenge the Israeli occupation.  To learn more or apply to attend the
delegation, click here http://www.ifpbdel.org/del28/default.html
