CAIR Calls New FBI Profiling Policy ‘Un-American’

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/3/2008) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today termed "unconstitutional and un-American" a proposed Justice Department policy change that would allow the FBI to investigate Americans without evidence of wrongdoing and could permit religious and ethnic profiling.
Under the new guidelines, which are expected to be implemented later this summer, the FBI would be permitted to consider race and ethnicity when opening an investigation. Agents would also be allowed to ask open-ended questions about the activities of American Muslims and Arab-Americans, and could initiate an investigation if a person’s employment or background is labeled as "suspect" by government analysts looking at public records and other information.
The FBI currently needs specific evidence or allegations of wrongdoing before it can investigate a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

CAIR-MI: Palestinian Archbishop Calls for American Support
The top Christian leader for Palestinians is in metro Detroit this week, offering words of hope for Palestinians and criticizing Israeli occupation. His visit comes during a national convention in Dearborn for the American Federation of Ramallah, the biggest annual gathering of Palestinians in the United States.
Archbishop Theodosius Attallah Hanna, of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, visited an Arab-American church in Livonia on Wednesday and an Islamic center in Dearborn, where he met and spoke with a range of religious and community leaders. . .
“My wish is that the American people understand what the Palestinians go through,” he said. “Their struggle is a just struggle”

CAIR-Houston: Residents Upset Over Quran Distribution

The distribution of Qurans in a southwest Houston neighborhood has some residents worried about the motives of the group who dispersed the Islamic book.
An English translation of the Quran began appearing two weeks ago on the doorsteps of hundred of homes in the BraesTimbers neighborhood. The books came in plastic bags with a note attached from the ‘Book of Signs Foundation’ asking recipients to accept the Quran as a gift from the Muslim community. . .
However, Houston’s Council on American-Islamic Relations President Tarek Hussein said although his organization did not partake in distributing the books, he believes that the Muslims behind the distribution only wanted to educate non-Muslims about the religion.
