[Voters for Peace] Support New 2008 Peace Projects

July 1, 2008
Dear james m,
I’m writing to let you know what our plans are for this election year and ask you to review the website of a new project we will be announcing soon.  Also, we need your support to keep up our efforts for this year.  Please donate today.
The new project focuses on "Climate Security."  This is a joint project of Voters for Peace and Friends of the Earth that brings together the peace and climate change movements.  The website for the project, www.GlobalClimateSecurity.org, provides all of the key information on the nexus between climate and national security.  This includes reports and documents, news analysis and video presentations.  The goal is to educate the public, media and decision makers as well as to get advocates from the peace and climate change movements working together.   Please review the website and give me your thoughts.  We plan to go public with the project in the next couple of weeks.
Voters for Peace has a lot going on in this year to make the peace voter as powerful a force in the elections as possible as well as to build peace voters into an effective political bloc for the future.   Below are descriptions of two key projects in the election year:
Peace Impact:  This coalition project with a seven other anti-war groups that is seeking to get out the peace vote in 2008.  It is a non-partisan effort that is focused on educating the membership of anti-war groups on the importance of voting and seeking to increase the turnout of peace voters.  Voters for Peace is serving among the leadership of this coalition effort.
Peace Voter Power: This project seeks to get peace voters to contact the candidates running for president to end the Iraq occupation and prevent future wars of aggression.  And, if candidates are already supporters of ending the war, urging them to make this a top campaign issue.  In addition to writing the presidential candidates, Peace Voter Power is also urging people to survey state and federal candidates on peace, climate change, justice and democracy issues. Voters for Peace is also providing a data base of information on the presidential candidates – news articles, columns, key speeches, debate excerpts, funding sources and voting records.
The majority of voters support our views: end the Iraq occupation and prevent future wars of aggression.  But, for too long these views have not been represented by the Democratic and Republican Party candidates or the government. We are working to change that this year but also recognize this is a long-term effort.
We need your support.  Please donate today.  (You can donate at: https://salsa.democracyinaction .org/dia/organizations/vfp /shop/custom.jsp?donate_page _KEY=1355.)
Thank for your continued support and efforts.
