What Does Hiroshima Have To Do With U.S. Threats Against Iran? by Ken
August 6, 2005 Cindy Sheehan’s challenge to George Bush got the Anti-
War Movement going. She’s running for Congress as an Independent
against Nancy Pelosi. She needs more signatures by Friday August 8
to qualify for the ballot.
You can help meet her dealine of a few thousand more signatures by
Friday. Find out more at http://www.CindyforCongress.org .
She writes, "I don’t understand why in a ‘democracy’ the powers that
be make it so difficult to run for office. A healthy system of
government demands more choices and should hear even more voices…I
have a burning desire to right the wrongs of the excesses of the last
few decades; make this world more peaceful and healthy; and transform
this country into the one that they say my son, Casey, died for."
August 2: Port Military Resistance Protesters Arrested in Tacoma for
Blocking War Equipment
"Tacoma, Washington is a Port city 30 minutes south of Seattle. The
USNS Brittin has been docked at the port and in recent days has
unloaded returning Strykers from the 4th Brigade stationed at Ft.
Lewis. They are unloading large weaponry to be re-furbished at Ft.
Lewis and then sent back to Iraq. Here we have the murderous tools of
war in our midst, the Bush regime is literally ‘bringing the war
home.’ People of conscience see all this and have pledged to put
their bodies literally in front of the path of these shipments.
The Seattle chapter of World Can’ t Wait joined with the Port
Militarization Resistance, a grouping of regional organizations and
individuals whose aim is to end the war by resisting military
shipments via public infrastructure. Last night Emma and Rave were
part of a group of 5 people who were arrested in an attempt to block
the Strykers. Here is what we’ve learned so far:
About 20-30 people, most of them youth, had mobilized to be in Tacoma
yesterday. They had to wait out the army, which was at the Port
loading trucks with weaponry. The police were on the offensive,
making it impossible to get near the Port. Emma said the youth had a
spirit of defiance and determination, and that they strategized
collectively around the best way to block the trucks. A group of them
went closer the Port entrance and were met by the police. This kept
the cops occupied." more

AUCKLAND New Zealand: Condoleeza Rice Called a War Criminal: United
States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made a narrow escape from
justice, with the assistance of the New Zealand Police, in Auckland
on Saturday 26 July. The police can now consider themselves
accessories to war crimes. Rice met with government leaders in
Auckland but was chased by 150 protesters spurred on by a bounty of
$10,000. They called for her arrest, under the Geneva Convention,
for war crimes and for her role in authorizing the use of torture.

people have to stop the Bush program? Or, is independent political
action independent the way to resist the machinery of war and the
