Friends Digest Vol. 2, No. 7

Friends Digest Vol. 2, No. 7
"Cowardice asks the question — is it safe? Expediency asks
the question –is it politic? Vanity asks the question — is it
popular? But conscience asks the question — is it right? And there
comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor
politic, nor popular; but one must take it because it is right." —
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

* A Shout Out to Denver *
The Democratic National Convention begins in 7 days.  This is a
unique opportunity to bring the issues of importance to Indian
Country to the attention of the nation and the world. See
<http://freepeltiernow.blogspot.com/2008/08/denvers-dnc-movement-sets-marches.html>.
It also is a great time to show your support for Leonard Peltier.
As you move around the city next week, be sure to wear your Peltier
shirt, display a banner… oh, hey… fly a flag.  Don’t have one?
Contact <keith@mylifeismysundance.com>.
Remember that a picture is worth a thousand words.
Show Leonard — and the world — that he is not forgotten.
We urge supporters in the Minneapolis area to do the same.
The Republican National Convention begins there on September 1.
* Election 2008 *

* Jericho March: October 10 *
On October 10, 2008, there will be a national mobilization in New
York City calling for amnesty and freedom for all US-held political
prisoners and prisoners of war. 10/10 will mark the 10th anniversary
of the Jericho ’98 march in Washington, DC. Like Jericho ’98, the
aim of 10/10 is not just to get people out to the march, but to
gather folks together to build a lasting relationship and strategize
on how to get our political prisoners and prisoners of war free,
and to continue their and our struggle for justice and freedom. For
more information, visit <http://www.thejerichomovement.com/>.
Jericho Boston will be holding a series of local events
leading up to 10/10 to help build a strong contingent
from the Boston area. Please plan to attend, get involved,
and get out the word to others. To download flyers, go to
<https://lists.riseup.net/www/d_read/jericho_boston_announce/>.
* Leonard’s Birthday *
Leonard’s birthday is on September 12.  Remember to send cards
and letters to Leonard Peltier #89637-132, USP-Lewisburg, US
Penitentiary, PO Box 1000, Lewisburg, PA 17837-1000.
Please mark the day by sending a letter of support for the Longest
Walk II’s "Manifesto for Change" and its resolution in support
of freedom for Leonard Peltier to Honorable John Conyers, Jr.,
Chairman, Committee on the Judiciary, U.S. House of Representatives,
2138 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, DC 20515; Fax:
202-225-0072; E-mail: <John.Conyers@mail.house.gov>.
Leonard becomes eligible for a full parole hearing late this year.
Another action you can take to mark Leonard’s birthday, if you have
not already done so, is to sign the parole petition on Leonard’s
behalf at <http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/parole2008/>.
Please invite others to sign the petition as well.

About reality

Also, thanx for signing my petitions, et al, please consider sharing them. Also, since Admin. of change.org aren't allowing me to invite people to do my actions lately and are switching my urls for my petitions so when I invite people off their site they can't get to the petition either (ergo 3 possible urls for each petition), here's a few of my latest actions; do as few or as many as you'd like (there are 3 linx for each petition because admin. switches between the 3 of them so people trying to sign the petition can‘t get to it): This post on Disabled Greens News and discussion: Haiti disaster anniversary, please, do what you can: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DisabledGreensNews/message/9033 This petition on change.org: Haiti disaster anniversary: http://www.change.org/petitions/view/haiti_disaster_anniversary_2?share_id=yIpWHEHxri&pe=pce http://uspoverty.change.org/petitions/view/haiti_disaster_anniversary_2 http://www.change.org/petitions/view/haiti_disaster_anniversary_2 This post on Disabled Greens News and discussion: Green, Indigenous, Native American, etc., actions: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DisabledGreensNews/message/9026 This petition on change.org: Green, Indigenous, Native American, acts: http://www.change.org/petitions/view/green_indigenous_native_american_acts?share_id=NHvTtQadfP&pe=pce http://uspoverty.change.org/petitions/view/green_indigenous,_native_american_acts http://www.change.org/petitions/view/green_indigenous,_native_american_acts This post on Disabled Greens News and discussion: Art/Act: celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, holiday: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DisabledGreensNews/message/9024 This petition on change.org: Art/Act: celebrate Dr. M.L.
