Happy Valentine’s Day from No Dirty Gold

Happy Valentine’s Day from No Dirty Gold
Dear James M,
5 years, 50 jewelers and 500 more things on our to do list…
We’re celebrating Valentine’s Day – and our 5th anniversary – by announcing our 50th signatory to the Golden Rules for more responsible sourcing of precious metals! That’s right, thanks to efforts by concerned consumers like you, 50 of the world’s leading jewelers, representing 23% of the US jewelry market, have pledged to work towards sourcing their metals in accordance with the human rights, social, and environmental criteria of the Golden Rules.
Jewelers are concerned about where their metals come from
"Precious metals mining causes toxic pollution and is often tied to human rights abuses, which are unacceptable to us and our customers," explained Marc Choyt of Reflective Images, a Santa Fe, New Mexico-based jewelry designer and retailer, who was the 50th jeweler to sign on.
When will mining companies step up to meet this demand?
Today, we congratulate Reflective Images, Boucheron, Toby Pomeroy and the other jewelers and designers who are seeking alternatives to dirty, or irresponsibly mined gold.
We also know that much of the hard work remains to be done. How soon will mining companies respond to this demand, by ending destructive practices like mining in forests and dumping wastes in lakes and rivers?
We’ll need your help to get there. Stay tuned!
And have a wonderful Valentine’s Day.
Payal, Scott, Alan, and the rest of the No Dirty Gold campaign team
PS – Can you ask 5 friends to take the No Dirty Gold pledge?
