ADAPT Acts: Obama admin. agrees meet w. ADAPT on CCA; etc..
Success! Obama administration agrees to meet with ADAPT regarding the CCA!
From Bob Kafka:
Once again, the power of grassroots advocacy has proven to make a difference!
The flood of e-mails to Melody Barnes got the attention of the Obama Administration. Our call for CCA and other long term service and supports to be addressed by his Administration and for them to work with Congress to pass CCA in 2009 will be discussed next week on a phone call between ADAPT representatives and representatives from the Obama Administration, including the Domestic Policy Council, Office of Public Liaison and Special Assistant to the President on Disability Issues.
You can stop e-mailing Melody Barnes for now.
Now that we have a meeting with the Obama Administration to discuss passing CCA, it’s important that we get Congress working on our legislation.  We need people to contact their Senators and Representatives in the House to ask them to sign on as original co-sponsors of the Community Choice Act.
ADAPT members across the country have been going to the local offices for their Representatives and Senators asking them to sign on as original co-sponsors of the Community Choice Act.  Keep up those visits!
They are really effective.
People can also contact the Washington offices.  Here are two links that allow you to send an email or fax to your Representative or Senator.  If you can, personalize your letter.  Tell your own story or the story of someone important to you.  Explain why we need to reverse the institutional bias and pass CCA.  This is YOUR letter to the people who represent you.  After you do this, forward this email and ask other people to respond as well.  It’s important that every Senator and Member of Congress hear from us!
Keep up the great work!

From: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Date: Tue, 17 Feb 2009 14:55:11 -0600 (CST)
Subject: Cms.hhs.gov- MFP Conference Notice
As you may be aware, CMS is sponsoring a national Money Follows the Person
(MFP) Conference that will be held at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront from
March 2-4, 2009.  We think the conference will provide an exciting opportunity
for learning, exchanging ideas and networking for a wide variety of
stakeholders interested in long term support issues.
Space at the conference is limited, with only about 150 openings currently
remaining.  Registration is available on a first come, first serve basis and
we anticipate that there may not be capacity to accommodate everyone who may
want to attend.  Information about the conference, including a tentative draft
agenda, and on line registration for the conference can be accessed by going
to www.taformfp.com and following the links for the MFP conference.
Thank you and we hope to see you in Baltimore in March.
