Announcing: 2010 Student Peace Alliance National Conference   🙂
2010 Student Peace Alliance National Conference
Extreme Makeover: Peace in the 21st Century
A Conference For Youth, By Youth
We are pleased to announce the second Student Peace Alliance National Conference!  The conference will focus on education about effective domestic and international peacebuilding programs; training in grassroots organizing, applied peacebuilding, and lobbying; and empowering youth to be citizen advocates for an infrastructure in the federal government that makes peace a priority.  We expect this to be a dynamic conference that will change the central discourse on peace within our country.
Help spread the word about this exciting conference!  All the information about housing, travel and conference scholarships is available on the Student Peace Alliance website.  Outside of travel to Austin, the total cost for one youth (for registration, housing and food over 3 days) is only $100!  Our goal has been to make this conference as affordable as possible for every youth regardless of socio-economic background.  That is one of the main reasons we offer scholarships for youth attending the conference.  Please consider sponsoring a youth to help us reach this goal!
Thanks and stay tuned for future updates!  We look forward to mobilizing youth around the country to attend the Student Peace Alliance National Conference.
With Great Anticipation,
Aaron Voldman

House Party Mania… Plus: New Dept. of Peace Co-sponsor    🙂
House Party Mania
Plus: New U.S. Dept. of Peace FL Co-sponsor!
It is not too late to plan a Peace: Making it Real! House Party for December 5th or January 9th.  Join other volunteers across the country in raising awareness about the incredible work and strategy of The Peace Alliance.  Don’t miss your opportunity to hear the hosting advice from last night’s conference call or check out the House Party materials online.
These parties can be as simple as you want and still make a huge difference. Think of it as a time to let your friends, family and colleagues know why you put so much time and effort into this work.
We will be announcing the guest speaker for the Town Hall Conference call (available to volunteers attending and hosting a House Party) any day now!
Sign up for to host a House Party today!

Is your Congressperson next?
FL State Coordinator Ana Campos with Rep. GraysonAn inspirational background story: At The Peace Alliance DC conference in March, the Florida group was very moved by a student who wanted to participate on the Hill lobbying the next day. She was new to the campaign and very moved by the whole movement but her flight was leaving that monday morning. Someone offered to chip in a few dollars and encouraged her to change her flight so she could stay. That inspired all of us to chip in as well. So she changed her flight at the last minute and went as a part of a group to a last minute visit to Congressman Grayson’s office that next day. Then recently, Ana Campos, FL state coordinator, saw Congressman Grayson at a President Obama event in her state, she asked him again, and that seemed to do the trick! A great story showing that perseverance and teamwork pays off! (Photo: Ana Campos, FL State Coordinator with Rep. Grayson.  Photo by Brad A. Schenck.)
